A theology of natural fertility and family planning

Hi, In response to a very interesting question raised on a blog my husband reads, whereby the question was asked is there a theology of contraception I offer some thought on the topic through a paper I wrote as part of a Grad Dip in Theology. I have attached it as a PDF.

The paper is written at an academic theological level, and in particular looks at the use of the contraceptive pill vs natural family planning (NFP) methods and how I believe NFP actually has some amazing benefits, joys and satisfaction to bring to us as married couples who also desire to know and glorify God.

Pragmatism again.

I was watching Micah this morning – he had three coasters in his hands and then spent 5 minutes trying to get the fourth from the coffee table. He was quite determined and I was thinking “come on… you have three already”.

That got me thinking.

The pragmatist says the 99% is good enough.

God says No it is not.

He says “I will leave the 99 and go out and search and find the 1. I will pick them up and bring them home. I will do what it takes for that one. I want 100%.”

That is not pragmatic.

It is passionate…

Pragmatism

I have often been accused of being overly theoretical and ‘in my head’ – which I think has been with good reason. Over the past few months, a few people around me have been challenging me to be more practical and to implement my thoughts or at least ground them.

Questions such as “give me an example?” and “what does that look like?” are really helpful to move me to that.

But that got me thinking.
