Big shift in church thinking

This is important for anyone involved in church leadership.

There has been a massive rethink at Willow Creek of late. Not only that, according to this article , and the presentations (see below), the leadership admit that they have made a mistake in the way they have been doing things.

In response to their existing strategy about getting people more involved in church life, Greg Hawkins states:

Increasing levels of participation in these sets of activities does NOT predict whether someone’s becoming more of a disciple of Christ. It does NOT predict whether they love God more or they love people more.

Ie, we thought these activities would help people love God & people more – we have found that to be wrong.

The clip that Greg presents is a must see on the findings of their research that challenges, through highlighting the over and under-emphasis of their efforts, much of the underlying thinking in the Willow Creek model.

And given the influence of Willow over the years and that many churches have and are incorporating this into their strategy/ practice/ models/ thinking, their admission should be prompting many to see and acknowledge the same things and make changes.
