A great example of a governement having a good intention, but not really considering the people who will lose out:
The Consumer Product Safety Act in the US has the intention of preventing the sale of toxic items. The by-product is that everything in a second-hand store, and handmade items are by default considered toxic and therefore must be disposed of...except when they cough up the $50k to test.
